FOUR MIDTERMS IN FIVE DAYS PLUS A LAB TEST HRRRNNNNGH
Ugh I just ate the worst thing I've ever eaten, counting that scorpion in Thailand. Who knew that leftovers from Christmas could become something so vile? THEY WERE FROZEN SO THEY'RE PROBABLY OKAY BUT IF I SUDDENLY STOP POSTING THEN I MIGHT BE DEAD.
Right, so! I've got an incredibly stupid habit of writing something for my journal and instead saving it as a .doc on my desktop. To the complete list to date is:

What useless names! :O Seriously I had to check to find out what half of these even were. I'm going to be posting 'em over the next little while because I don't know why I didn't do so when they were first written and I don't want to just drop a huge giant post with them all in it.
Also, I have been having a recurring dream in which my clock dies which is kind of neat and symbolic except that I just put the batteries back in and spend ten minutes setting it properly and then all is normal. Maybe it's still neat and symbolic, I don't know.
Anyway, for your reading pleasure today I have: i'm written, in which I talk about a show that I've been watching every now and again for a couple months now, Digimon Savers. :BBBB
Digimon Savers is interesting. It isn’t really all that good, to be honest- I dislike most of the characters, for one thing. They’re all rather irritating! It’s interesting that the ones I do like are both male, too, as I’ve noticed that I generally find more to like in female characters than in male ones.
Of course, this may have something to do with the fact that the only female, Yoshino is the single most useless character I have ever seen. Graaaagh. In, I dunno, 30ish episodes, she has had... uh, two victories in which she wasn’t depending on one of the big strong men to help her. >[ One of those was the token ‘first digivolve’ victory, so that hardly even counts. She’s not a ‘strong inside’ character, either. She’s just useless and I hate her. A brief digression: I’m pretty relaxed with the whole ‘women are always useless in anime’ law because sometimes women are useless and sometimes men are useless and unless the show is making it clear that every women can’t do anything without a man to back her up, I assume that it is just a trait of the specific character. But jesus christ Yoshino blew that whole laid back thing out of the water. THIS IS FEMINIST RAGE TALKING AND I AM NOT EVEN A FEMINIST.
And then there’s Masaru, who I wish to shove off a bridge. At first, I thought I was going to like him because he actually helps his Digimon fight, unlike everyone else in the series. Buuuuuuut he is the stereotypical hotheaded fighter character ramped up way further than it ever should be. He is so full of himself and stupid and doesn’t think at all and ablablahgaogp >[ Ah, hold on a sec.
Direct quote: “This is a one-on-one fight between me and that tanker!” Yes, a tanker. Like, a ship. I had to laugh at it but THIS IS HOW HE DEALS WITH THINGS. HE WAS PROBABLY GOING TO TRY PUNCHING IT ASDGOHWETAW HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IN THE FIRST DOZEN EPISODES BECAUSE IF DIGIMON ARE HAVING TROUBLES HITTING THESE GUYS, YOU DON’T STAND A CHANCE EXCEPT SOMEHOW YOU KEEP ON LIVING ARGH
The only good thing about him is his relationship with Touma, who is one of the two main characters who I like. Touma is also a pretty stereotypical character; the token distant, uptight genius. But he’s got a depth to him that the others lack- they’re both incredibly shallow (they are, no matter how much the show tries to claim otherwise) while he has a little bit of something to him. But what I really like about Touma is how he relates to others. Like I said, his relationship with Masaru is really entertaining to me because of their personalities; if he’s ice, Masaru is fire. So when he plans a strategy and Masaru RUNS IN AHEAD IGNORING EVERYTHING HE SAYS AND WINS ANYWAY he is just bewildered and has to acknowledge that Masaru has something that he doesn’t:incredible dumb luck spirit. So he’s got this respect for him.
And then Touma’s relationship with his Digimon- well, I’ll cover them in order. Yoshino’s Digimon, whatever its name is (...Raramon?), is as flat as she is. Uh, looking for distinctive character traits, here: she slightly less useless than Yoshino, uh, loyal... That’s it. Masaru’s Digimon, Agumon, is kinda cute because he’s a giant childish moron who worships Masaru like a big brotheror gang leader (see link). He calls him ‘Aniki.’ So that relationship is okay by me, although not exactly dynamic. It suits Masaru. Now, Touma and Gaomon, I really do like. For the first three episodes in which he appears, all Gaomon says is, “Yes, Master.” and does whatever Touma says. Loyalty, obedience, brevity*... I really want to know how much Touma’s opened up to Gaomon, and that is probably the biggest reason I keep watching, followed by Touma and Masaru’s dynamic, and then Itsuko, who I’ll come back to. Really, though, I’m just pleased to have such a quiet, stoic character. Can you tell I like friendship dynamics?** I do. Touma’s the smart one, so he gives the orders that Gaomon obeys without question. Gaomon is the strong one who can actually follow the orders Touma gives. My biggest complaint about him is that he is essentially Lucario but uglier. But hey, I like Lucario, too, so.
Now, Itsuko is the child of the group, I guess, although he’s a lot more mature later on than most of the others despite being only two-thirds of their age. :| His story is that he was transported to the Digital World in a freak accident and raised by Digimon, so initially he actually fights the main characters. I’ve enjoyed his development as he’s learned about his human family and how he’s got a unique point of view in the series, as someone who sees both sides of the problem. He had a lot of potential to be a weepy angsty character, but thankfully he is being useful instead. I guess my like for him is a lot more straightforward than for Touma. I really am not a fan of Falcomon, his parter, if only becauseof his voice of his voice he kept Itsuko in the dark about how he’s, uh, a human while they were fighting humans and while all the other Digimon hated the poor kid for no reason that made sense to him.
Ah, so to sum up: argop9haw9;t8awht9hp9awet I don’t ever recommend seeing it. It’s too long to be worth suffering through Masaru as the main character. I was on the verge of giving up after a couple of painfully irritating episodes back-to-back, but fortunately the most recent one was not just Touma-centered, but it had the cool goth chick trying to seduce him to the side of eeeeeevil in the middle of a fight. And then because she, too, was a genius (and was better at it than he was), he resorted to pulling a Masaru and pretty much RUNNING AT HER AND FLAILING and it worked, which was hilarious and gratifying because I do like the conflict in how those two act.
So I guess there are a few really quite good episodes out there, but not enough to make it worth it. :\ Also, forget what I said before. My number one reason to keep watching is that I want to see Masaru get the snot beaten out of him for being a moron and for never thinking and for all of his talk about blah blah being a real man means doing incredibly stupid things all the time.
OH PFFFF I DIDN’T EVEN MENTION BANCHOULEOMON AND I SHOULD HAVE BECAUSE HE’S HILARIOUS. They were definitely going for ‘bad-ass’ but it is so overdone, you have no idea. Here, a picture. And when he appears the first time, he plays this song like Protoman’s whistle while standing on a cliff and being all dramatic. He’s got the obligatory scars and a stalk of grass in his mouth and wears shades in the series and he’s got the coat half off and the bandages around his wrists and it’s like, Toei! That’s too much! He’s supposed to be mysterious and dramatic, but he is hilarious.
PS. I have obviously been playing around with an unusual literary technique called ‘run-on sentences’ which is actually kind of fun to do now that I realize it’s a valid way of writing instead of some ABERRATION AGAINST ENGLISH BHAOIG:HEHUOAH:AE man I was so uptight about writing at one point, you have no idea. I wonder if I go in cycles; I mean, ten years ago my writing would have made five years ago!me cringe, but now I’m looping back toward a more casual style. Hopefully I am doing it in aless incredibly moronic more mature way.
*Evidently a trait that I do not possess myself. :B
