Huh. I thought I knew what to expect from One Piece. A unique style, shounen friendships (NAKAMA!), piratey fun times, treasure, bizarre villains, fun characters, epic plotlines, and >400 episodes.
I did not expect it to make me tear up. Only other anime that's done that is Cowboy Bebop. It's the way Nami flings dust at Luffy here in Episode 37), mostly, because that's just about all she can do to anyone at that point. Going back to just that, it must look pretty corny, I guess. But that moment had been building for several episodes and. uh. IT WAS TWO IN THE MORNING; THAT MAY HAVE BEEN A FACTOR. no, but seriously, best scene in the show so far.
What did it for me in Bebop was Faye drawing a bed for herself in this scene, although the music probably helped. Just... agh. STILL HAVEN'T FOUND THE SHOW TO MAKE ME CRY, BUT THESE GUYS CAME CLOSE.
You know what else evoked a strong emotion? Wolf's Rain. But that was more horrified disbelief. I am so impressed that they had the guts to end it the way they did, oh man. DID NOT EXPECT THAT AT ALL OH WOW.
I have been watching quality shows lately. Talk about variety, hey? But they were all excellent, some of them despite first impressions.Current Music: Walk in the Rain - Yoko Kano Current Mood: derp

Holy crap, guys. The Serial Experiments Lain game ends with her killing herself. Putting a pistol in her mouth and pulling the trigger. She's fourteen! DDD: Man, the anime is effed up on its own, but this is just. D: And I have no idea how to interpret that in the context of the show. Same characters, different continuity? A sequel? A prequel--? It could be the Wired version of her, in that case? But she pretty much erased the real (real world, I guess.) Lain from existence, so...
Vague philosophical cartoons are too complicated for me. I'm should go play Pokemon or something. :<
Oh hey, speaking of introspective anime, anyone else out there familiar with Satoshi Kon? I've been meaning to write about Paranoia Agent and Paprika for the past few months. I saw them a while back and was blown away, particularly with Paranoia Agent. :O And the music he uses is so amazing! I need to see if Susumu Hirasawa's other works are as good as the sountracks for those two. I have to find a way to see more of Kon's stuff, since it seems like he's an exception to my inexplicable "terrible 90s anime was better" prejudice.
Ah, here: the song that opens Paprika: Mediational Field. And he does such a good job of incorporating the same themes through the entire film, no matter what's needed. Check out Chaser, which is such a broken song. ...and then here's Parade (Instrumental) which makes me cry inside because aaaaaaa this song is terrifying. And I'll stop now. IT HAS BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE I DROPPED THOUSANDS OF LINKS ON MY FLIST OKAY? I KIND OF MISS IT.Current Mood: derp

Alright, guys. So, I saw a preview for Cencoroll and found myself wondering, "Why does that boy have a giant rocket-whale foetus?" So I watched it. It's only half an hour long, so why not, I figured.
It won my heart in the first few minutes. How? Simple. The protagonist notices a bike that seemed to move on its own. It's owner comes to claim it, but she stops him from taking it away. This bike grows an eye and stares at her like so:

She pokes it. She pokes it. Ingenious! Exactly what I would have done! That's the only appropriate response to eyes where eyes should not be as far as I'm concerned.
And that (among other things) is why Cencoroll is worth watching.

Okay, dudes, a couple of things. First off, I'd appreciate if anyone who knows Gundam Wing would read this application critically. Do I understand Quatre? Have I typoed 'Gundam Wang' again? Halp please!
( this is like seven pages of writing. It was kind of cool, a huge character essay! 8D )
Aaaand just some general notes from as the series progresses. These aren't done and don't include Endless Waltz and a lot of things that I know I won't forget, but uh here it is.
( this is kind of sad actually )
WELL, WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Life is excellent. Sometimes people forget that, I think, and I do too. Lately, though, I have been bouncing into some kind of ridiculous bubble of good feeling whenever I'm alone. I've been doing things like revisiting favourite places and writing excellent things, testing myself and failing gloriously, forgetting important things and being forgiven, trying disgusting food and drink, and wrestling like a kid.
I've typed up at least a post's worth of material in the past few weeks, but none of it's making it through my filters. I do that, sometimes, typing something up and letting it digest for a bit before I post it, editing it as necessary. Nothing I've typed seems to have matured enough- maybe I'll redo it, or maybe it will never see light. Other times I simply toss whatever is on my mind out for you all to process for yourselves. That's what I'm doing now.
( I suspect I may be quite boring. )

Ugh I just ate the worst thing I've ever eaten, counting that scorpion in Thailand. Who knew that leftovers from Christmas could become something so vile? THEY WERE FROZEN SO THEY'RE PROBABLY OKAY BUT IF I SUDDENLY STOP POSTING THEN I MIGHT BE DEAD.
Right, so! I've got an incredibly stupid habit of writing something for my journal and instead saving it as a .doc on my desktop. To the complete list to date is:
melt writeme wahog; i'm written I had a wonderful dream last night about a guy who accidentally kills the woman he loves in a kind of glorious sci i too am written adsoghiaew Touma
What useless names! :O Seriously I had to check to find out what half of these even were. I'm going to be posting 'em over the next little while because I don't know why I didn't do so when they were first written and I don't want to just drop a huge giant post with them all in it.
Also, I have been having a recurring dream in which my clock dies which is kind of neat and symbolic except that I just put the batteries back in and spend ten minutes setting it properly and then all is normal. Maybe it's still neat and symbolic, I don't know.
Anyway, for your reading pleasure today I have: i'm written, in which I talk about a show that I've been watching every now and again for a couple months now, Digimon Savers. :BBBB

M-my DS is broken! D: It snapped right at the hinge and I don't know why. It looks like the plastic cracked; I must have... geeze, I don't know. I would remember stepping on it! :C
BUT ANYWAY I had this bizarre craving to play game after that happened, so I hooked up my PS2 to my little TV aaaaaand no dice. I guess the cables are lame or something... That TV has always taken a bit of work to get it to take any input, but I've always been able to make it work with a bit of effort in the past. No good, no good.
SO! I was left with one option! Megaman 64! xD It's like Ocarina of Time except with a worse camera but dear god you can jump in this game. what is wrong with you, Link, that you can not do this? D|
... :L "There're some dirty magazines on the racks... It might be fun to look at them, b-but there's so many people around... You'd get in trouble if someone saw you!"
Ffff what. I WOULD EXPECT THIS KIND OF BEHAVIOUR FROM SNAKE, MAYBE. BUT NOT FROM YOU, MEGAMAN. NEVER FROM YOU.
Huh, it's implied that this game actually kinda keeps track of your morality, somehow. Urgh, and I keep on accidentally stealing from vending machines, too. THEY'RE JUST SO KICKABLE I DON'T MEAN TO! D8
I just noticed that it's actually being covered by someone on screencappery! Check it out, you can see the classy N64 graphics. :3
:DDD I just found out that I had the fourth highest mark in the class for the online project that we did in RLST. Score! I didn't even think that I did all that good of a job... maybe we got sympathy points or something because we picked an IMPOSSIBLE subject? 8| WHO KNOWS?
Ah, if you guys want to see it, you actually can. Part of the assignment was basically to create a Wiki article to be submitted first to him, and then to Wikipedia. So! My group's contribution on Ziran. 8| It looks so pathetic! But I seriously spent a LONG time on it and geeze every source said something different and there just aren't the right words in English to talk about it properly. Haha, honestly, I wouldn't have given myself anything higher than a 70% on this, but I guess maybe he checked our claim that there were NO SOURCES ANYWHERE and realized that we had actually done alright, all things considered.
Ah, what kind of interesting things do I have for you today? A quiz that I took! I'm always interested in those quizzes that have the most simple questions. I've got my doubts about how much you can tell about a person from just their preference of shape or colour. Try it for yourself before you see my results! Here.
( My results )
Well, that was fun. ( Now, some totally unrelated introspection! )
( And now, Onmyou Taisenki! )

You know, since I started writing about my dreams, I'm beginning to remember them more frequently! I can't remember very much of last night, buuuut for some reason I was at coastal B. C. around the time of its exploration by George Vancouver. There was some drama or something in the group of people I was with over, well... One guy wanted to wait at this one passage and rob tour buses. And we wouldn't hold with that kind of behaviour, thank you very much!
|< Brain, I am not impressed by this anachronism. Do better tomorrow although it's better than cute animals killing each other so uh I guess I shouldn't complain.
Anyway! Today was awesome and exciting! But this takes a bit of set-up, so bear with me. ( XD I kinda ramble. ) adgh I meant to write more (especially because I've got a bundle of introspection and another quiz already ready to post), but this feels like it's done for today. |B GOOD NIGHT, SEATTLE.
WAIT FIRST THIS, THEN GOOD NIGHT.

I had a weird, surprisingly brutal dream last night, so I made myself late for class took the time to write it down as soon as I woke up.
Basically, three characters- two friends (we'll call them X and Y) and an enemy of X, who they come across wounded. Let's call him Z.
( Wooo, violence )
( 'Let us then walk around the heavenly pillar and meet and have conjugal intercourse.' )
( Okami )
( Hallowe'en )
( Things to watch, play, and read )
( Religious Studies (applying to anime, derpderp) )
( What art and exercise have in common )
Hah, this has been a really long, dorky entry, hasn't it? IF YOU SKIPPED IT, I DON'T BLAME YOU IN THE LEAST!Current Mood: derpderpderp

Hum, like two years ago I posted telling you guys to go watch One Stormy Night, which is just about the gayest sweetest thing to come out of Japan. I think that enough time has gone by that I can pimp it out again without spamming you guys, right?
Seriously, I'd watch it just for the art and for the music. The story is just a bonus. I seriously love the theme that plays on the title screen (before and around 3:00).
I'm feeling kind of down (no weather tonight to distract me, ha), and hopefully watching this will pull me out of it.

Oh, here's something fun for anyone who is / was into Pokemon: How Many Can You Name? I was in the mid 90's. I would've done better if it weren't some TRULY BIZARRE SPELLINGS. >:| I can't believe some of the ones I missed, too! Eesh. Back in the day, I could list 'em in order!
...I had more to write about, but I've forgotten. That's what I do!Current Mood: doiiii~

So uh today some guy threatened to beat me up. And I laughed, because it was bizarre! XD
I took my lunch and ate it outside 'cause it was nice out, and this guy was walking past with a group of friends. He wanted some of my drink, to which I replied, 'Haha, no way!' (because seriously, what? What kind of person asks to share the drink of some random guy on the street?) and he tried acting tough to me and I was politely bemused the whole time. Only... I got the giggles. XD I mean, who wants to fight someone over something like that?
And this wasn't a 'rrr I'm tough and laughing in your face' thing, I'm talking real laughter going on here. I clearly do not handle the ludicrous in a very sensible manner! Good job, survival instincts! IT'S NOT LIKE ANY HARM COULD COME TO ME. OH WAIT.
But he wandered off eventually and I started drawing on the sidewalk instead. Oh, Saskatoon! Did you know that according to the census info released almost a year ago, we lead the country in violent crimes per capita? Thanks, Wikipedia.
Uhh, I've been watching the Megaman anime on Veoh. What is it with Japanese children's shows and cross-dressing? Although I guess that Bugs tends to go in for that quite a bit, too. It's just more slap-stick, whereas there's actual storyline reasons for Lan, Dex and Tory to dress up in skimpy outfits. James from Pokemon has no excuse, though! He pretty clearly just gets his kicks that way. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course! :U
Now, one of those topics from my list. Uh, 'I Can Buy Things!'
So it sank in the other day that I have a credit card- the internet is at my fingertips! I can't find certain games I want at any place in town... but Amazon.com has 'em! I am going to waste so much money on games and on manga and on ...well, that's really all I want. But that's enough! I mean, a full series could be lots lots lots of money. And I am cheeeeeap!
I'm totally failing at my vow to not buy any more games until I've finished the ones I've got, by the way. Oh well! NO REGRETS!Current Mood: amused

:D Today, I am an extra gigantic dork. Having done a fair bit of cleaning, I am rewarding myself by watching wonderful awesome kid's shows. Like Megaman. :B
I am loving the themed villains du jour, the flashy power-up sequences, and the general goofiness of it all! And getting crazy ideas from the notion of a society that is so dependant on computers. I should definitely write this stuff down before I forget it.
For my own reference, things I want to natter on about when I'm feeling less lazy; ( Short list. There's more, probably, but I've forgotten it. :B )
Hey, today was pretty good!
PS. Any bets on whether I'll light anything on fire trying to iron tonight? I am so good at life! XD
EDIT: The list's getting longer as I remember stuff I've been wanting to bring up.Current Mood: chipper

Oh my god, Evangelion. Whaaat on Earth was that supposed to be? Episodes 18 - 20 ish? Oh my god, those poor protagonists! You empathize, you feel awful, you watch their brains shatter before you! It's wonderful! And then there's a couple episodes that ...just don't fit. The very last couple! I understand that it's supposed to be trippy and in the protagonist's subconscious, but it was just waaaay too rushed. And absolutely not satisfying.
I can respect that it's maybe not supposed to be satisfying. That's okay! Entirely happy endings tend to drive me insane. My favourite shows usually end on a not-entirely-joyous note! But... I'd like a conclusion, please! One that's not squished into the last five minutes. What on Earth happens to Rei and Asuka? I like them! How is Katsuragi? Does Gendou get what he deserves?
Oh, haha, and here's a swell quote from Wikipedia.
"Assistant director Kazuya Tsurumaki said that they originally used Christian symbolism only to give the project a unique edge against other giant robot shows, and that it had no particular meaning, and that it was meant to be susceptible to multiple interpretations. Hiroki Sato, head of Gainax's PR department, has made similar statements."
ie: "It has no significance; lawl."
GOSH I'M SURE GLAD I DIDN'T WASTE MY TIME TRYING TO WORK OUT WHY THE 'LONGINUS LANCE' WAS STABBING A CRUCIFIED 'ANGEL' NAMED 'LILITH.' OH WAIT. I DID. AND THAT'S JUST THE TIP OF THE METAPHORICAL ICEBERG.
asgobh24thb'[20k
What a disappointment! Now, maybe I take my shows too seriously. But ARGH! If you're going to name everything after biblical figures and make your explosions cross-shaped and have a giant white being physically crucified underground, the least you could do is put just a little thought into it! >|
...Actually, if it's ever convenient, I might buy the series anyway. Despite the awful ending, the rest of it was quite enjoyable. I liked all of the characters, save one. That's awesome, really!
Heh, this is actually a lot more vehement than I feel. It's just more fun to type like I'm upset. :B
On a totally unrelated note, 10 out of the 20 paragraphs in my last post started with 'Uhhhh' or 'Heh' or something like that. Is that obnoxious? Probably? I wonder where I picked up that habit.
Wellll, sleep now. 'Night, world!Current Mood: blank

Mm. I must have fifty entries that share this title.
I'm feeling really dissatisfied today because... well. Because of family problems, school problems, other problems. All of it together. Perhaps it's time to do another Chrono Trigger segment, just for a break from reality. Or maybe I could pick my classes for next term. That would be useful.
Ah, I feel as though I ought to be putting on my best face, now! There are people who don't really know me reading this! Although, I have to ask arynthefox: Who are you? Come say, "Hi!" How do you know me? :o
Pfft, you guys are getting the same me who's posted for years. I'm not really very capable of masking myself, anyway.
Oh, Amred! Regarding the MSN roleplaying thing, I'm sorry, but one of us doesn't feel comfortable playing with someone they don't know in real life. I truly am sorry. :<
Oh! I have AIM, now. The name is (surprise, surprise) 'Eibborn', so go ahead and add that, if you like. I'll be on about as often as I am on MSN, but ... well, you know. I'm really not that awesome when it comes to instant messaging programs, am I? :x
Aheh, this has to be about the least cohesive entry I've posted.
Mm, there was something I wanted to do... Oh! A fun activity for you and your friends to enjoy! Do you guys know those cubic beads with letters on them, so you can spell words? These are all available for purchase at work: ( I will take no responsibility for damage resulting from hour head striking your keyboard. ) It may provide you relief to know that no one's actually bought any of those since I started working in May.
( To spare your Friend's Lists. It's just a bunch of jumpy rambling, really. )
Just a reminder, I'm still not getting e-mail notifications when people reply to anything I say. That means that I will almost certainly forget to check back and leave whatever you say unanswered. If I do that, don't hesitate to drop me a note somehow reminding me. I'll apologise about a million times and scurry over to read whatever you said.
EDIT: ...Huh, wow. Okay, Episode 16 was a little bit of a mind-bender.

I'm queer for that goat. :)
